YTV’s The Next Star
WHAT IS IT
The Next Star is much like an American Idol but for Canadian teens ages 15 or below. Judges would travel across Canada auditioning talent and selecting certain participants to travel to Toronto to compete against each other for $6,000,000 worth of final prizes. The platform highlights each contestant’s biographies, the episodes of the show, behind the scenes footage and much more.
We also added the Virtual Next Star and a Second Screen component with a real time applause meter. The Virtual Next Star let Users participate and sing online into their camera and have people vote for them in the hopes they would be able to perform live on the show in the finale. The Second Screen enticed the at home audience to participate with the show on their smart phones and tablets. This included an applause meter that would encourage people to rate performances in real time and have the results appear on TV at the time.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
OF NOTE:
- The Applause Meter was used in real-time by thousands of different households across Canada.
- The Second Screen was so successful, it was used in further shows like Supergroup and later editions of the Next Star.
